However, the path to becoming the next Oliver Heath or Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen can be rather confusing.

As with an awful lot of careers in creative industries these days, there are now recognised qualifications available that are growing to be more expected. Most of the interior designers of yesteryear would have learnt their trade on the job, but as New Labour pushed more people into university, the breadth of courses available similarly ballooned, meaning that a BA(Hons) in interior design will be entirely expected. To get on to one of these courses, you may also be expected to have completed an art foundation year, although having an excellent portfolio can be enough for some institutions.

WorkThe life of an interior designer is not perhaps what people may expect. Whether you want to get into residential design, restaurant interior design or club design, there is an awful lot more business involved than you might think.
